Oooh La La! Some fancy stuff is coming to downtown Nanaimo on Commercial Street this summer ~ 2026! Our new Westcoast contemporary art gallery location (is still kind of a secret for now) but we can give you a few fun hints... Let's just say we're very excited to meet and say Hullo to all our new neighbours. We'll be fueling up our creativity with the best coffee in town across the street, shopping new artsy linen at London Coast and fresh threads from NYLA. MEET THE GALLERIST

Melissa Bain (born in Whitehorse, Yukon) is a professional full-time working artist living in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.

She is self-taught in the Arts and creates with a dionysian nature, displaying creative, intuitive power in her unique and colorful, illustrative paintings. Her work is diversified in style; ranging from abstract expressionate and impressionistic pieces to highly detailed figurative and portraiture. Inspired by the works of Chagall, Picasso, and German Expressionist painter Max Beckmann, Melissa paints intriguing figurative subjects in various mediums, but favors acrylic or oil on canvas. 

Melissa has exhibited her artwork in various Canadian galleries, private shows and retail. Her artwork and photography has been licensed commercially allowing for international distribution and recognition of her work. She is an active contributor of stock imagery on Getty Images and iStock.com. Her art works are also found in private collections around the world.
