Collection: DAVID SALMON

“I love how human beings perceive things, each of us differently, and interpret them based on our own experiences.”
Creating images that reward curiosity. David Salmon (born on Prince Edward Island) is an emerging artist based in Nanaimo, British Columbia, working primarily in acrylic and charcoal, and occasionally ink, pastel, and watercolour.
Although creativity has always been part of his life through music, martial arts,
and movement training, David only began seriously pursuing visual art in 2019.
After his father - accomplished Saint John artist Peter Salmon - passed away
unexpectedly, the sudden loss strengthened David’s commitment to learning the
craft of drawing and painting with curiosity, discipline, humour, and joy.
Inspired by the Old Masters, anatomy, the natural world, absurdity, metaphor,
and fun, David approaches each artwork as an exploration. He is less interested
in asking why an idea captures his attention than in following it to discover
where it leads.
His work aims to capture not only a subject, but an experience of seeing—
creating compositions that feel intriguing, playful, sometimes unsettling, and
open to interpretation. Fascinated by the many ways people perceive the world
through the lens of their own experiences, David invites viewers to find their own
meaning within each piece.
When he isn’t painting or drawing, David studies and practices Corporeal Mime
tinted with Butoh-inspired training.
