Collection: KELLY MITCHELMORE

Canadian Artist Kelly Mitchelmore

Painting Canadian flora & fauna with recognition, curiousity & delight.

Born and raised in Nova Scotia and now based in Nanaimo, Kelly Mitchelmore draws inspiration from nature, the sea, and the feelings they evoke. Working in acrylic and oil, she paints primarily with palette knives, building rich texture and expressive layers of colour.

Kelly holds a Bachelor of Interior Design, a foundation that informs her understanding of colour and perspective. She also served more than 14 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, including 10 years at sea with the Navy—an experience that continues to inspire her paintings of water and poppies.

Her approach centres on capturing a feeling rather than simply depicting a subject, inviting viewers to connect through their own memories and associations. From atmospheric florals to characterful crows, her paintings offer moments of recognition, curiosity, and delight.

At the Bainzy Art Gallery, Kelly’s work celebrates the expressive possibilities of Canadian flora and fauna, bringing together her love of nature with a playful sense of personality.
