An original acrylic painting of a cawing crow by artist Kelly Mitchelmore; as part of her Crow / Corvidae family series (2026).
A cawing crow has several meanings in folklore, depending on the culture and circumstances. In some folk traditions, a crow calling near a house was thought announce news or someone's arrival. It can also be a warning to pay attention or be cautious. Crows often appear in stories about death, the supernatural and transitions - though hearing one isn't a prediction of something bad. Their clever, watchful nature has also made them symbols of wit and resourcefulness. In everyday crow life, cawing is usually communication: calling to family, announcing food, or warning about a threat. We don't know exactly what "Hey Hey!" in this crow painting is cawing all about, but we'd love to hear what your interpretation on it's ruckus is.
